RTDC: Green Lantern

Billions of years ago, the Guardians of Oa (the most intelligent species in the Milky Way Galaxy) created the Green Lantern Corps, an organization made up of individuals from many species, with the goal of creating a more peaceful and just society.

Each Green Lantern has a power ring, which serves as a universal translator, a life-support system, and (most importantly) gives its wearer the ability to create solid constructs of green energy. In addition, the ring makes its wearer capable of supersonic flight and teleportation to any planet in the Oan database. When a Lantern dies, his or her power ring will seek out the nearest worthy creature to become its new wearer.

To limit the danger of a power ring falling into the wrong hands, each power ring can only store a limited charge at any given time. To recharge his or her ring, a Lantern must recite the Green Lantern oath near a Green Lantern battery:

"In brightest day, in darkest night
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"

If the oath is recited without sincere belief in these words, the ring will not recharge.

Haley Jordan, Air Force pilot and Green Lantern of Earth, obtained her power ring after the death of Green Lantern Abin Sur.

I decided to gender swap Hal (and race swap; she's hispanic) for purely aesthetic reasons; a team that's 90% white males (well, if you count caucasoid aliens) could use more visual variety.

Plot-wise I think a nice character arc would be on Haley learning to be less of a "I don't care if I die" fearless martyr, for the sake of those who care about her.
